Early years

Fully funded 6 week CPD course available to early years practitioners and reception class TAs

The course is based on the Sustained Shared Thinking and Emotional Wellbeing (SSTEW) framework, recommended by professionals as one of the most effective tools to help practitioners to structure high quality interactions with children. The programme will equip practitioners with the skills and confidence to strike an effective balance between child-led and adult directed learning.

The course will combine theory sessions taught by experienced tutors from Coventry University’s Faculty of Education with two placement days, where practitioners can put their learning into practice. The first placement day will be held at Childhaven Community Nursery School, an Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ nursery school with expertise in delivering the SSTEW framework. For the second placement, the course organisers will pair up practitioners and fund them to host each other at their settings.  This will provide an opportunity to observe more good practice, and offer reciprocal feedback.

All taught sessions will be delivered in the evening to avoid the need for supply cover, and the Opportunity Area will fund supply cover for the two placement days.  On completion of the course, practitioners will receive a Coventry University-endorsed certificate of achievement.

The course is due to start on 1st October, taught session and placement details are below:
